A collision of industry and nature
In-house photographer Joe Magowan was asked by Insanity to make some images of Jnr Williams that could be used for his social media. Joe had worked with Jnr a number of times on similar projects, and had mostly shot candid portraits of Jnr around his home-quarters of Dalston. Craving something different, Joe set about looking for a location where an industrial and natural landscape collided, to evoke Jnr’s blend of electronic and soulful sounds. After a few hours of scanning Google Street View, Joe decided on Barking Creek, an area with a small nature reserve surrounded by an industrial park. On the day of the shoot, Joe and Jnr explored the area around dusk, with Jnr playing his music out of a portable speaker and performing, while Joe shot candid images of him.
