Moss Kena
Moss Kena – Ministry of Sound asked creative director Steve Spacey to create a series of single covers and an album for Moss Kena, with a common theme running between them. Steve came up with the idea of slowly unveiling Moss’s face with each new release, starting with it almost totally obscured on the first single, and unveiled on the album cover. On creating the single covers, Steve and in-house photographer Joe Magowan experimented with a number of different set-ups in the studio to obscure and warp Moss’s face.
As Moss often uses water as a metaphor for expressing emotion in his lyrics, many of these setups involved water. Some examples included pouring water into different shaped vessels and shooting Moss through them, and splashing water onto reflective surfaces and shooting his reflection. The final design of the single covers drew inspiration from print processes, and layered each subsequent release on top on the previous ones in the campaign.
