Kitsch Appeal
In-house designer Yasmina Aoun and photographer Joe Magowan were given the task of creating a single cover of KDA’s ‘Human Stone’, a mash-up of Angie Stone and The Human League, after the track was signed to Columbia under a single deal. Yasmina drew up a mood board of references that featured heavily saturated and posterised imagery, typical of 1950s and 1960s advertising and pop-art to reflect the track’s kitsch appeal. Riffing on the track’s title, the pair decided to shoot an isolated hand clutching a rock with a colourful, blood-like fluid running from between the fingers, as if oozing from the stone as it was squeezed.
